The holidays are upon us, and with that comes inevitable feelings of stress, particularly for women.

The pressure to manage holiday preparations alongside daily responsibilities creates a perfect storm of stress. Indeed, a 2024 Yorkville University’s Department of Behavioural Sciences survey revealed that December is identified as the most stressful month by nearly half of Canadians. Studies also report that women are 40 per cent more likely than men to experience heightened stress during the holiday.

TELUS Health’s Paula Allen, Global Leader of Research and Client Insights joined Dr. Krista Schultz, Associate Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Alumni at Yorkville University, to share valuable insights on managing holiday-related pressures.

They discuss effective ways to navigate holiday stress including:

  1. Leveraging your community by sharing tasks with family and friends
  2. Learning to set boundaries and prioritizing self-care
  3. Asking your employer about resources available to support your mental health and wellbeing

By understanding these pressures and implementing supportive measures, Canadians can work towards a more balanced and enjoyable holiday season.
