Image Blog - MHI Q2

The TELUS Mental Health Index (MHI), created in 2017 and made publicly available in 2020, stands as a pioneering measurement tool that tracks and analyzes the mental health of working populations across 13 countries. By surveying 19,000 employed individuals, this comprehensive research provides organizations with actionable insights to support employee wellbeing and productivity.

What is the TELUS Mental Health Index?

The MHI is a report that delivers quarterly insights across Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Asia-Pacific regions.

This population-wide perspective helps employers:

  • Understand mental health trends and risk factors across the working population, based on age, gender and many other criteria
  • Track changes in workforce wellbeing over time, to help leaders understand organizational and external stressors that may be impacting health, productivity and quality of life
  • Make informed decisions about mental health support and guide resource allocation effectively

Methodology

Who is surveyed?

The MHI is calculated based on an online survey measuring multiple wellbeing factors and mental health experiences. Survey participants must be employed at the moment of the survey or have worked within the previous six months. The sample reflects the national workforce by age, gender, industry, and geographic distribution.

Insights from the latest MHI report

Since the start of 2025, MHI Insights have been published quarterly for each region. The survey conducted in March 2025 examines personal and work-related stressors and the impacts on mental health and productivity in the context of a multi-generational workforce. It offers a deep dive into work-life balance, wellness goals and the unique challenges and concerns facing working parents, including their children’s wellbeing.

Below are some of the highlights of our Q2 Canadian report, which is considered the baseline for all other reports.
