Background
Mountain View Benefits is a Calgary-based benefits brokerage that works with employers on group benefits, health spending accounts and retirement plans. The firm serves businesses of all sizes throughout Western Canada across a wide range of industries, along with individuals, entrepreneurs, and contractors seeking health and dental coverage. Mountain View Benefits also offers HR-related services to help organizations manage people and compliance needs.
Executive health and benefits strategy
In addition to traditional benefits planning, Mountain View Benefits supports leadership teams through executive health and benefits programs. These programs focus on proactive care, including comprehensive health screenings, evaluation of potential health risks, personalized wellness planning, and access to specialized care in Canada and abroad.
Given that leaders have such a big stake in the success of their organization, the goal of proactive health benefits is to protect their wellbeing and longevity so that they can continue to perform.
Important Notice: The preventive screening services described below provide an informational health assessment and risk screening; they do not constitute a medical diagnosis, nor do they guarantee the detection or prevention of future diseases or health conditions. These private, uninsured services are designed to complement—not replace—provincial health insurance plans, public specialist care, or standard recommended public medical screening programs. All customer health and genetic data are strictly confidential and completely walled off from the purchasing employer.
Challenge
As expectations around health and benefits continued to shift, brokers faced growing pressure to support leadership teams with more proactive care options. While health benefits plans can help with costs, gaps remain around access to preventive health care. As a result, leaders often waited to address health concerns only after symptoms became more serious, rather than earlier when risks could be identified and discussed. With a client base of nearly 700 organizations, Mountain View Benefits began to see those gaps surface more often in executive benefits conversations.
Traditional employee benefits no longer meeting employee expectations
Leadership teams began asking questions that went beyond standard employee benefits, including what health services were accessible, how quickly care could be accessed, and whether proactive options, such as advanced imaging or genetic testing, were available outside traditional coverage. Many assumed that public care combined with a group benefits plan would cover most of their needs. As awareness of preventive health services increased, clients asked about options such as advanced screening. These requests did not always align with how traditional plans were designed, creating a mismatch between expectations and coverage.
Confusion about access to employee benefits
Many leaders wanted to address health concerns sooner, rather than waiting for problems to arise or worsen while trying to meet the high demands of their roles. At the same time, health spending accounts became more flexible, but many needed guidance on how and when those options could be used and where they fit within a broader benefits approach.
More complex executive health conversations
Brokers felt increased pressure to guide more complex conversations where clients expected help understanding their options without confusion or unrealistic expectations. As discussions expanded beyond traditional benefits and into preventive care, brokers needed a trusted partner they could confidently point clients toward. Providing that guidance required experience and sound judgement, particularly when supporting leadership teams whose health decisions carried broader implications for their organizations.
Solution
As expectations around health and benefits continued to shift, brokers faced growing pressure to support leadership teams with more proactive care options. While health benefits plans can help with costs, gaps remain around access to preventive health care. As a result, leaders often waited to address health concerns only after symptoms became more serious, rather than earlier when risks could be identified and discussed. With a client base of nearly 700 organizations, Mountain View Benefits began to see those gaps surface more often in executive benefits conversations.
At the core of this approach is the belief that supporting executive health supports the organizations they lead. Jared Reist, president of Mountain View Benefits, pointed to the client experience and the depth of information available through the service. Precision Health combines advanced imaging, bloodwork, and genetic data to create a comprehensive health profile that serves as a baseline health overview and supports future care decisions.
Disclosure: Mountain View Benefits is a commercial partner of TELUS Health and benefits commercially from the sale of these packages. The testimonial below reflects Mr. Reist’s genuine, personal experience with the service.
“The high-end client experience really stood out,” says Reist. “Precision Health gives people a starting point for understanding their health and deciding what to address next.”
Before bringing the service into client discussions, Reist completed a Precision Health assessment himself. That firsthand experience shaped how the service fit within executive benefits conversations. During those discussions, Reist shared his own results to show how the information can support follow-up care with primary physicians.
Advanced imaging became a key area of interest, particularly full-body MRI scans used for preventative health evaluation baselines. Clients also asked about genetic testing, which added context around inherited risks.
Precision Health was positioned as part of a broader executive health strategy to complement existing benefits. It was introduced for leaders who wanted deeper health information and a practical way to review results with their providers, without implying that these private diagnostics would fast-track patients into public specialist care or public treatments.
Client introduction began shortly after the spring of 2025, once Reist had reviewed his results and completed follow-up discussions with care providers. At that point, the team reviewed its executive benefits approach, focused on executive health and assessed partners that could support this work at scale.
TELUS Health stood out based on its national reach, with 14 clinics across nine major Canadian cities, and its ability to support the growth of Mountain View Benefits’ executive benefits program.
Throughout onboarding and rollout, the TELUS Health team worked closely with Mountain View Benefits and that collaboration continues. Product education, direct access to account support, and regular communication supported a clear, compliant, and responsible introduction to clients.
Outcome
Introducing Precision Health strengthened how Mountain View Benefits supports executive health conversations with leadership teams. The program brought structure to discussions that were already emerging and gave advisors a more informed way to address questions about access to preventive care.
Internally, Mountain View Benefits treated the program as an investment rather than a product add-on. M. Reist also put a key employee through the Precision Health assessment. The firm has since allocated a budget for additional team members to complete this executive health benefit, using firsthand experience to guide how the service is discussed.
“Everything we’ve offered over the last 15 years, I’ve gone through myself first,” Reist says. “We weren’t offering this to anyone until I went through it and put one of our employees through it.”
That approach helped build internal confidence and a shared understanding of how Precision Health fits within executive benefits. It also reinforced Mountain View Benefits’ role in helping clients make sense of preventive health options that were often unfamiliar.
For clients, the introduction of Precision Health made conversations about proactive health planning more tangible. Many executives knew preventive health clinics existed but lacked clarity on where to go and what to expect, or how those services fit alongside public care and benefits plans. Precision Health provided a concrete reference point for those discussions.
Interest has grown through direct conversations and referrals, often driven by leaders who have completed the assessment or are planning for it in future budgets. Mountain View Benefits has taken a deliberate approach, focusing on education and fit rather than broad promotion. They work with companies looking to give their leadership teams access to rigorous, evidence-based evaluations and health innovation.
“We’re not trying to push this out to everyone,” Reist says. “We focus on quality over quantity and make space for the right conversations at the right time.”
The partnership with TELUS Health also contributed to early momentum. Responsiveness, access to clinical tours, and openness to feedback supported a collaborative working relationship. That foundation has allowed Mountain View Benefits to build trust, engage selectively with clients, and prepare for broader advisor involvement as its executive health and benefits program continues to develop.
