Every day – whether it’s from the TELUS office, or the home office – our team members are leveraging TELUS’ world-leading technology in combination with their passion and expertise to find innovative ways to support the health and wellbeing of individuals. They do this with one goal in mind: to build healthier communities and workplaces around the world.
Meet Jaya, she’s part of the Clinical Operations team with TELUS Health MyCare, and supports the psychology program as an Internal Psychology Associate. She acts as a liaison between patients and mental health professionals, and helps ensure that patients are getting the quality mental health support they need.
Q: Thanks for chatting with us today, Jaya. Let’s start with what inspired you to join TELUS Health?
A: I joined the TELUS Health MyCare team in Oct 2021, so it will be almost 2 years. What inspired me to join TELUS Health is the initiative they consistently demonstrated to revolutionize the delivery of healthcare without compromising quality, all while increasing healthcare accessibility across Canada. Additionally, TELUS Health ensured that they were offering accessibility and care to not only physical but other important aspects of health such as mental and emotional. It was impressive to see the many apps TELUS Health provided for patients to access so many different services such as prescriptions, and dietary help. The clear message that TELUS Health cares about the quality and accessibility of well-rounded healthcare, is what truly inspired me to join TELUS Health.
Q: Jaya, you are an incredible advocate, and the team is lucky to have you championing our collective goal of increasing access to physical, and mental care for people in Canada. What would you say is your favourite part about your role at TELUS Health?
A: My favourite part of my role is acting as a liaison to help patients access the quality mental healthcare they deserve. I enjoy interacting with the many patients and psychologists daily to ensure the entire process and patient experience runs smoothly.
Q: Your role is an important one – how do you see it positively impacting the lives of patients?
A: I do not believe it is any secret that mental health care options need to be improved. Being on the psychology team with MyCare allows me to help facilitate the process of individuals accessing the mental health care they need. MyCare is designed to help patients learn about the different options/resources available to them, and provide care with a treatment plan where appropriate.
Q: Going further, how does your role and or team help fulfill TELUS Health’s ultimate goal of building healthier workplaces and communities?
A: The psychology team at MyCare helps patients of all communities access quality care with generally lower wait-times compared to other avenues of care within mental health. Also being able to access care right from the comfort of an individual's own chosen safe space not only can increase accessibility and help reduce the fear someone may face with attending in-person settings.
Q: Finally, how do TELUS’ values resonate with you, and support your personal health and wellbeing?
A: One of the major reasons I sought TELUS as an employer is due to the many actions they take to give back to the community. Supporting the community has always been an interest for me, as I have been volunteering for various causes since early teens. Currently as an employee of TELUS, there are endless opportunities for me to be involved and give back to the community in conjunction with my employer, colleagues and team. To be able to work for a company that aligns with my own personal values has been outstanding.
