Feeling tired? Explore how to boost energy levels this spring

Written by TELUS Health | May 8, 2025

Despite longer days and warmer weather, many of us struggle with persistent fatigue. While spring usually brings renewed energy, some people find themselves wondering why they're not feeling the seasonal boost. The answer might be in your iron levels.

Understanding your energy levels

Feeling tired isn't just about lack of sleep. Iron deficiency affects people from all walks of life—from busy professionals to elite athletes. According to the World Health Organization, it's the most common nutritional deficiency worldwide, affecting about 30 per cent of women of reproductive age. It's particularly common among women, vegetarians and endurance athletes, yet often goes unrecognized as we blame our fatigue on busy schedules or stress.

Beyond diet and supplements

While many of us try to boost our iron through our diet—loading up on leafy greens, red meat, and legumes, or taking supplements, these methods don't always provide the results we need. Some individuals aren’t able to absorb iron effectively through oral supplements. For those folks, a more direct approach to replenish iron stores is required.

A new path to wellness

We're excited to share that TELUS Health Care Centres now offers iron infusions at our Vancouver clinic as part of our comprehensive approach to health and wellness. This treatment can be particularly life-changing for those who haven't found success with traditional methods, with clinical studies showing success rates of over 68 per cent in correcting iron deficiency anemia.

"While iron deficiency remains under-diagnosed and under-treated, particularly among women, we see an opportunity to enhance both awareness and access to care. Our partnership with TELUS Health represents an important step forward in addressing these challenges and expanding access to essential treatments" says Dr. Adam Davidson, IV Therapy, Medical Director.

Speak with your family physician or nurse practitioner

If you're experiencing persistent fatigue, we encourage you to discuss it with your family physician or nurse practitioner. They can assess your needs and potentially provide a referral if iron infusions are appropriate for your health situation.

Most prescription drug costs are covered for patients with extended health benefits.
